Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Review

My specifications as of this writing:

AMD +2600 Dual Core 1.9 GHZ
2 GB 800MHz Kingston RAM
Inno3d 9500GT 1GB 128bit Video Card
19" 940BW Samsung Syncmaster LCD Monitor

Infinity Ward's latest release for the Call of Duty series is a ground breaker. Based on the Call of Duty 4 engine, its graphics is awesome with very realistic textures, immersive environment, very real physics and engaging fire fights.

Available in XBox 360, Playstation 3 consoles and PC, each offering their own way of immersing you to the modern gun battle from the very heart of Washington DC to the cold fronts of a Russian shoreline. From the first person perspective of an Army Ranger to the superior view through the eyes of Predator UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).

Environments range from the usual urban settings complete with the minarets and mosques to the snowy terrain battered with fierce blizzards, to the very amazing rendition of Rio de Janeiro's sprawling slums during the intense chase of a very prized target.

One new feature is the snowmobile experience as you race through the snow slopes, chased by multiple snowmobile riders and dodging trees along the way.

Another is the Spec Ops option that is unlocked after you finish the campaign part.

For me, as a gamer, I would rate Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 a staggering 9.9 out of 10 score!

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Review

If you have been following Blizzard, now Activision Blizzard, or its phenomenal MMORPG World of Warcraft, you would be familiar to its third installment, the Wrath of the Lich King. Second installment was Burning Crusade which features the story about the opening of the Dark Portal in Blasted Lands, which opens a warp gate to the ethereal world of Draenor, now known as Outland.

In Burning Crusade, the main antagonist is Illidan Stormrage the demon hunter, a former Night Elf hero who upon consuming the Skull of Guldan have become "something more than a night elf, something for than a demon".

The Burning Crusade

The opening cinematics with his intro: "Imprisoned for 10,000 years, banished from my own homeland, yet you dare enter my realm, you are not prepared...", will suggest to the degree of his anger on his fate. Initially, he was real hero, brother of Shando Stormrage, one of the night elf guardians. But then he was accused of treason by Whisperwind and Shando. He consumed the Skull of Guldan so he may increase his power, but unwittingly corrupted his being.

He left Azeroth along with his serpentine minions the Naga commanded by Vashj, and his high official, Kael Thas Sunstrider with his Blood elf army. Together they entered Outland. After doing so, they destroyed all other dark portals on Outland to cut the reinforcements of the demon army.

Lady Vashj became the Queen under her palace in Zangarmarsh. Kael Thas became the leader inside a draenei fortress the Tempest Keep, and Illidan claimed the former Karabor temple, now the Black Temple, for himself. In Azeroth, another major boss is Archimonde, inside Caverns of Time. In this WoW installment, the highest armor drops is the tier 6 item sets.

Wrath of the Lich King

After bolstering his army in Outland, Illidan came back to Azeroth, to Northrend to exact his revenge on the human paladin and prince of Lordaeron, Arthas Menethil, who by the time he arrived there, already became one with the spirit of Guldan, the orc warlock, when he wore the frozen armor on top of the Icecrown Glacier, and together, they became one dreadful being, the Lich King.

Arthas the Lich King is now wielding the runeblade Frostmourne when Illidan reached him in Icecrown. They fought, but Illidan was no match for him.

In Wrath of the Lich King, the main antagonist is now Arthas the Lich King and Kel Thuzad now in his Lich form in the newly added continent, the Northrend.

Added also is the runeforging Death Knight class, available only when you already have a level 55 character in the account. The death knight is available for all races. A paladin-like character, can tank, can do spells, and can do serious melee damage. Once a hero of the Lich King, the death knights became allies with the Horde, or the Alliance.

Added also is the Inscriptionist profession which can make inscriptions and add Glyphs to characters.

There is also a barber in the new Dalaran, after teleported from Lordamere lake to Crystal Song Forest, floating magically above the area.

Professions max skill is raised to 450 from 375 with the title as Grand Master.

New mounts can be used, from Woolly Mammoths, to Proto Drakes and Dragons.

Character level cap is also increased to level 80, so seeing a character with 16k health is no surprise now.

As for me, I'm playing private server Scape Gaming because it's a cool free server, implementing 3.0.9 patch.

I have about 7 characters in there, but the characters I use mostly are "Sephirothz", a blood elf warlock, "Syllann", a blood elf death knight, "Taurajin" a tauren warrior, and "Ohayo", a blood elf paladin wielding a Lionheart Executioner.

What are you waiting for, get into the game now!

CoD WaW game is developed using the Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare Engine.

The moments of war as we come to know it in the movies, involve very dreadful scenarios, nerve wracking situations and adrenaline-rushing moments of close quarters combat, bombing runs and covert operations. It is obvious then that most games that attempts to depict wars fail to do so.

But not in the case of Call of Duty World At War. Under pressure to build an even more impressive series due to the huge success of its predecessor, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, the Treyarch team, a sister studio of Infinity Ward, maker of the previous Call of Duty installations, had tried to add tons of contents to the game, from single player modes to feature rich multiplayer options as well as the thrilling undead zombie level bonus stage. The game is very successful in putting its players into the boots of a round-the-mill soldier with bullets to shells buzzing around, not to mention the awesome sounds that really immerses every gamer like he/she is really in that war torn region. Other feature to note is the arterial blood spray when a soldier is hit by a grenade or rocket explosion, his arms and legs gets detached from his body while spraying blood everywhere. The game also features flamethrowers, very good at clearing bunkers.

The Story

The setting of the game is made from two perspectives. One is in the coastal islands of the Pacific battle between the Japanese and American empires from the perspective of a captured soldier, and the other is from the Soviet soldier's perpective from the battle in Stalingrad to the Fall of Berlin.

The Conquest of Stalingrad

The soviet player starts as an unconscious soldier who lies undetected amongst his dead comrades when he discovered that there is still another soldier alive, an injured sniper who then lent him his sniper. This became the beginning of a bloody massacre by each side against the other, slaughtering unarmed and helpless soldiers and civilians. From sniper combat to tank battles, the Soviet army's resolve to revenge is so intense and massive, like a slumbering giant awakened by tiny Germany, to Berlin they march, showing no mercy to those who stand in their way, with the sole purpose of purging the fascist nation of 'rats' and planting the Soviet Flag atop the Reich Castle.

Battle Against the Empire of the Rising Sun

Meanwhile the battles in the Pacific are intense. American armies suffered great losses when they faced the Imperial army's fury, who's army literally fight to the death. Japanese armies intend to defend every last inch of their islands against the Americans. A hapless soldier may fall trap to Japanese trap doors with soldiers lying in wait, some are playing dead and attack when you are in range, then attempts to rip your guts apart with their bayonet mounted rifles. Some are lying in wait atop the trees while others are simply very well camouflaged in the grasses.

Into the high seas, American ships are run down by Zero fighters and Kamikazes, the infamous suicide planes of Japan.

There is a mission similar to the Spectre Gunship mission of Modern Warfare where you shoot hapless soldiers on the ground from thousands feet high in the darkness of the night. In World at War, you are to fight for your life as you are swarmed by Japanese Zeroes, Kamikazes and PT boats while taking the responsibility of a gunner on board a flying fortress.

Although the game depicts World War 2, all the characters and events are fictional, and all similarities to real events are purely coincidental.
